Open your heart to our rabbits
Our rabbit and hare rescue has been established to rescue abandoned and unwanted rabbits and help hares in need. Found a baby wild rabbit or hare or an injured wild rabbit or hare?

Adopt don’t shop

Rescue Rabbit was created to rescue abandoned and unwanted rabbits and find them the best possible home by promoting adoption and responsible pet ownership.
Rescue Rabbit also aims to raise the status of rabbits and improve their living conditions through information about their personality, physiology and daily needs.
Rabbits are smart, affectionate, inquisitive and highly sociable and make perfect indoor companions (provided the house has been “bunny proofed” for their safety and the safety of your possessions!).
In return for the freedom, care and attention you give them, rabbits will love you unconditionally and entertain you daily with their antics.
Being highly sociable, rabbits will live a much happier life if they have a rabbit companion or companions.
If you are considering adopting a rabbit, please read our rabbit care page before contacting us to receive an adoption application form.
Applications will be screened to find the best possible family for our rabbits.
All our rabbits come de-sexed and vaccinated which is reflected in our adoption fees.
If you already have a rabbit and are looking for a companion for him/her, Rescue Rabbit also offers a dating service through which, once your adoption application has been approved, your rabbit can come and meet prospective suitors.

Rescue Rabbit Beginnings

It all started one evening, about 10 years ago when, on our way to Sydney airport, we found a week-old baby bush bunny on the side of the road, about to be picked up by a crow. Orphaned baby rabbits are extremely hard to hand raise but by some miracle (and a lot of web research, veterinary advice and luck!!) our bunny girl survived and we fell head over heels in love.
She started by having her own room as wild rabbit do not handle caged life well and once our home had been fully bunny proofed (mainly by protecting electric cables that bunnies find hard to resist) she was given the run of the house and did her personality shine!! She entertained us daily with her binkies, zoomies and her exuberant shows of intelligence and affection, jumping on the bed every morning to lick our face.
When the time came to find our (by then de-sexed) bunny girl a partner, we contacted a small animal rescue and, inspired by their work and alerted to the plight of rabbits, became a volunteer and foster carer.
We then started taking in pound rabbits that the rescue couldn’t take (as once you have met them it is hard to leave them behind) which led us to set up Rescue Rabbit.
